Vovinam was born in Vietnam in 1938 in the hope of creating a method of exercise suitable with man's physical strength. Vovinam is the combination of Vietnamese traditional martial arts and wrestling and the characteristics of many international martial arts. Vovinam has two categories of competition: fighting and technical combination. The athlete wears a martial artist uniform and uses weapons as regulated by the rules of Vovinam.
